The World Was Created When?

Since the dawn of time, people have tried to explain the creation of the universe. Whether it be through religion or through some other ideology, there always has been reasons for believing not only that the world was created in an intense, interesting way but also in a way that makes us mean something. Philosophy is about trying our hardest as humans to explain the world around us in a way that allows us to feel fulfilled. Philosophy is also entirely debatable. For this fact, there is no philosophy that is really generally accepted amongst everyone. Even the simplest of philosophies like “be kind to one another” can be disputed, discoursed, and debated until it’s broken into pieces. Because of this there comes about these things called “faux philosophies” that are created, for the most part, to spite something else.

If you know me then you know that I love spite. I do most things out of it. However, there comes a point in spite where you, as a person, need to stop what you are doing and realize that maybe you are taking it too far. The philosophers and founders behind the faux philosophy of Last Thursdayism may perhaps need to do this self-reflection. Last Thursdayism, according to its website, hinges on the belief that the entire world was created last Thursday and everything that shows or suggests that the universe had existed beyond this time was planted there by a higher being. If you thought that part was a trip, wait until you realize who that higher being even is.

In a short answer, the “god” of this universe is you. In a longer answer, the “god” of this universe is a version of you that is an almighty being. The “you” that is reading this text, for example, is not the one who created the universe but rather is a copy that you placed within the universe to test. Yes, the main idea of this entire religion, besides the universe being created last Thursday, is that you are a god who has decided to create an entire universe in order to test a facet of yourself. Everyone on Earth, except you of course, is programmed to be a part of the church of Last Thursdayism. That is to say, everyone knows about this and knows that you are the test subject of this universe. They are also programmed to keep quiet about the whole thing and generally deny the subject matter entirely. Everything in this universe is to test you, because this universe is expiring on Thursday of this week.

This is another turn of this faux philosophy, it doesn’t in fact consider itself a parody religion so we will continue just calling it a philosophy. The final piece of this puzzle is that the universe, as stated above, is ending this Thursday. On Thursday, you will be judged by You, the true creator of the universe, and judged for your actions. The main goal was to see if you would believe in any religion and Last Thursday’s website heavily regards that any religion is discouraged so as to avoid any retribution in the “afterlife.” But then again, there is not a real afterlife. For on Thursday this version of you will cease to exist and another version of you will continue on a newly created universe that Thursday. It’s a very complicated cycle of events that continue until You decide that the test is finally over.

Faux philosophies like this, while not hurting anyone in a general sense, are a nuisance at the least to real philosophers who wish to study and discourse on topics such as creation and purpose. They exist for the fact that they can exist. Everything in this ideology claims that the universe was created last Thursday and anything that anyone could possibly try to conjure up to deny this fact is already preemptively denied and counter argued by Last Thursdayism. It’s a catch-all and it really just exists to prove that you can claim whatever you want in terms of philosophy. This is why philosophy is wack. And more importantly, it’s why I love philosophy.
