Heaven Is God’s Safe Word

In the end

God asks me

if I deserve it:

the bounty of heaven.

I say, “No, Lord,

I am not worthy.”

“You were worthy

all along…”

But I didn’t know.

I had no idea

that Jesus was kinky

enough to tease my life

into whatever shape he pleased.

“Just say the safe word:

Heaven heaven heaven

on a blue plastic tray

[“All the better to

eat you with, my dear”].”

Nothing is the same.

Mortality is S and M

experimentation at its finest:

bring the pain,

bring the pain,

blessed be his name.
