Introducing the Current Events Series

Perspective. It is unique to each individual, but exists as a part of what makes us human. The York Review’s new Current Events Series is bringing ideas of perspective, through bi-weekly posts, emphasizing different topics that connect the YCP Community to the world around us.

Every other Monday, we will post a current event on our website relating to something happening in the world and the YCP community. The main purpose of this series is staying connected to the world around us and becoming aware of the time that we live in.

We choose our topics in relation with the Cultural Series that takes place on campus, and open the topic up to a broader mindset, allowing the events of the world to relate and tie into the Cultural Series.

We are encouraging you to have your voice be heard through creativity. Dig deep down…how does the topics we post make you feel? What does it make you think about? Does it inspire you to change the world? Does it leave you wondering? We want to know. Submit a creative piece, such as artwork, photography, poetry, etc. We will feature submissions on The York Review’s website under the Current Events Series. Join in to be connected to a voice that is bigger than you realize.

To submit to The York Review’s Current Events Series, please send an email to yrcurrentevents@gmail.com that includes your name, current year — if you are currently a student at York College of Pennsylvania — how you became associated with the YR community, and the title of your creative piece. The York Review’s Current Event Series, is a web series only and submissions will only be featured on The York Review’s website. If you wish to have your submission featured in the print edition of The York Review, please also send it to Print Editor, Seven VanNort at jvannort@ycp.edu.

Submission guidelines are as follows:

  • Length or word count of your submissions does not matter. It is your voice, so you make it as short or as detailed as you want. This is about your creativity being showcased, a chance for you to submit your work. There are no word count requirements.

  • We are accepting poetry, short stories, non-fiction, photography, artwork — anything that reflects the impact each featured Current Events article has on you. If you submit artwork or photography, please submit it in JPEG, TIFF, or PDF format.

  • Please respond to the topic of that particular week’s prompt.

  • Each creative piece should contain an original title.

  • Tell your friends, family, classmates — anyone who is interested in the publication’s community. This is a platform for you to #beweirdwithus. We want your work featured on our website and your voice to be known.
