From the Editors: YCP’s Literary Journal Online Archives
With the upcoming release of the 30th issue of The York Review – nicknamed the “Pearl Edition” after the traditional 30th wedding anniversary gift – the team figured this might be a good time to mention that this is really not our 30th issue. It is in fact our 35th issue, discovered only a few months ago by team member Amari Thompson who found issues of our literary journal dating all the way back to autumn of 1962. Gifted to the college by Mr. Ronald J. Coyle in 1996, this first issue of “The Undergraduate Literary Publication of York Junior College” features eight original pieces with a mix of poetry, fiction, and a review of William Golding’s 1954 novel Lord of the Flies, and is just the start of a legacy of writers’ and editors’ contributions to York’s finest literary journal. In their words:
This is just a sample the first of 35 freshly archived issues of York College’s literary journal, now made available on The York Review website by team members Jesenia Zavala and Bradyn Yerges. Since September, these three individuals have been working tirelessly to recover the lengths of work left by the editors preceding them. Quite literally dusting off the old books, the collection has been rebuilt from the ground up and has now been made available for public access. The team would like to thank each and every individual who has contributed over the years to York College’s literary journal and would like to specifically thank Dr. Travis Kurowski, whose guidance and oversight have been invaluable to this project. With that:
This, the archive of York College’s literary
journal is respectfully dedicated to the numerous
editors before us, whose contributions and
dedication made this collection possible.
