JaNya Brown 00:10
Hi, welcome to the rough draft. This is the York College of Pennsylvania student led podcast and I'm this season's co host JaNya Brown.
Caraline Junkin 00:19
And I'm your other co host, Caraline Junkin. Welcome to the podcast.
JaNya Brown 00:23
All right now since this is our 13th season, we've decided to make this our spookiest of seasons, especially since we have Halloween and Friday the 13th in this one season.
Caraline Junkin 00:34
And we even have our ghost production manager in the studio with us. So you're probably wondering how we got to be on the student run podcast. So I'm going to tell you, we're in the Student Publications class. And in this class, there are some of us who are working on the website. Some are working on the print edition. And then we are working on the podcast. And I specifically chose to do the podcast, because I've never done anything with audio. And it just seemed like something very interesting to me that I'd want to try. What about you, JaNya?
JaNya Brown 01:06
So as a person who's definitely been a lot of places on campus, and a lot of things, I quite enjoy public speaking. So those would be a great opportunity to talk to a larger crowd than just what's on campus.
Caraline Junkin 01:18
Cool. That's cool. So I am a sophomore. I am undeclared. So I'm still working on a major, but I'll figure that out soon, hopefully. I'm on the tennis team. And I've actually played tennis like throughout high school and I started it when I was a little bit younger. I'm from homedown New Jersey. And I'm the oldest sibling, I do have a little dog a Yorkie. What about you, JaNya?
JaNya Brown 01:45
All right, so I am a senior forensic chemistry major with a pre med focus. So I've done research currently at three different institutions over the summer, as well as I've been a part of student senate, campus activity board, Residence Life, and I'm a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated here on campus.
Caraline Junkin 02:08
Wow, you've really been really busy around campus, it's probably hard to manage a schedule like that.
JaNya Brown 02:13
It takes a bit of of Excel, Google calendar, and a little bit more. Well, actually, I think we need to talk about that a little bit more in our next episode. Yes, we will be. So getting on to our episodes. So our first episode after this one will be about mindfulness and keeping up with a busy college schedule, with student organizations, classes, and anything else that life can throw at you.
Caraline Junkin 02:59
And then our next episode will be out on October 13. So we will actually be recording that episode outside. So make sure you come up and talk to us about how you're feeling about Halloween and Friday the 13th in general,
JaNya Brown 03:12
trying to figure out if you guys will be able to survive the day.
Caraline Junkin 03:15
Yeah. And then October 27, which is the two weeks later, we're going to be talking about how to stay safe when going out anywhere, especially since it's right around Halloween. And then on November 10, we will actually be bringing in some student athletes as guests, and we'll be talking about the D3 athletics, as well as clubs sports. And if you're interested in that, please reach out to us on our Instagram. It's @theroughdraft.ycp. We also have a TikTok, which is @theroughdraftycp. And then our email is theroughdraftycp@gmail.com.
JaNya Brown 03:54
We try to make sure it's consistent. So if you have a lot of patents on any platform, it should be about the same user name. And then to be able to wrap up the seasons. We also have our November 24 episode, which will be focused on Thanksgiving, you can hear what we're thankful for as well. If you guys want to send in VR Instagram, which you're thankful for it, we would appreciate it, as well as we're trying to help students figure out how to survive the holidays. And that's usually one of the first big holidays you had to go home for after being on campus. We also have our final episode, which will be December 1, which is right before final season. So we'll be talking about how you can survive finals, as well as anything that just wrapping up the season. And also we may just have a good time thinking and chatting and having a bit of christmas cookies as we Oh yeah, definitely wrap up the season.
Caraline Junkin 04:45
So catch us in two weeks on September 29th. And you'll get to find out how JaNya deals with her very crazy and intense schedule and you also get to learn about mindfulness.
JaNya Brown 04:56
Also, if you stay listening for a little bit after we sign out or you can listen for our partner organization, the York Review about what the York review does how to submit submissions, as well as hearing a few poems from previous writers.
Caraline Junkin 05:11
Thank you to WVYC for letting us record our podcast in the studio. Thanks, guys.
JaNya Brown 05:16
Thanks for listening
Lee Kraus 05:26

The York review is a student run literary magazine, and we're currently working on our 30th anniversary edition. You can submit any kind of works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, fine art, digital art and photography on our website York review.org.
Sydney Slack 05:59
Hi, this is Sydney Slack reading Will you Paint me a Picture.
Will you paint me a picture
Of the one who holds open the door
And goes dancing with me
Despite his two left feet?
Because I am dreaming of a wedding.
Will you paint me a picture?
Of the adventures we will have
And games we will play
In our own backyard?
Because I am not only my career.
Will you paint me a picture
Of small feet on carpet
And toys all over the floor
In the home we build together?
Because I'm allowed to want children.
Will you paint me a picture
Of the things I can't yet see
To give me hope for our future
When I'm unsure I will get one?
Because I would like to look forward to the future.
Lee Kraus 06:44
Hi, this is Lee Kraus and this is my poem Transplant. Where is it?
My butterfly maker, comfort rippe
flimsy like paper
forging a smile, a laugh— so chipper—
Where is it?
Beating like iambic pentameter with
enough syllables to trigger the adrenaline?
I need to find it stop this cardiac arrest,
my hand meets a thick red
and
there is her heart.
I place it in the hollow cavity of my chest
asI hear her skeleton scream
from my closet.
