I would like to extend my regret and apologies

For missing dinner with you and your wife,

But just this morning I awoke and I swallowed these

pills that made my dreams come to life

You see, I was summiting Everest and Kilimanjaro

And riding a camel from Calcutta to Spain,

To save some fair maidens from terror and sorrow

And to find a good hoagie and get drunk on champagne

I bushwhacked through jungle and trekked through the snow

To a City of Gold whos defenders where quick

To tattoo my face and share all that they know

About the magic of mushrooms as a salve for the sick

I caught two in the back at a bar in West Texas,

And smoked cuban cigars with a witch in LA

Who spoke out a jumble of curses and hexes–

My friend, I grew six inches that day!

I’d show you in person, old chap, but it seems

That the pills are still having a lovely effect,

For I cannot tell what is real and what is dreams

And I fear that I'm trapped where the two intersect

So this is goodbye, my old friend, and I say

That the world is, well, odder than you'd think at first look,

Perhaps I'll return and we’ll dine on the day

That you get divorced

or you hire a cook
